San Francisco, Calif., July 23, 2012 – Helping children get the sleep they need is important for their health, happiness and well being. According to the Better Sleep Council, sleep is critical for a child’s physical and mental development. Also, kids’ sleep needs change as they age. On average, infants need 16 hours of sleep per day; toddlers require 12 hours; pre-schoolers need 10.5 to 11.5 hours; and children six and older need 9 to 10 hours of snooze time. One important sleep tip: a well-rested parent is far better equipped to help their children get enough rest.
Having the right environment for sleep also helps the whole family get the rest they need. Create the optimal sleep space with a darkened room that’s cool and quiet, and a bed that is comfortable and supportive
McRoskey San Francisco President Robin McRoskey Azevedo agrees. “Comfort is very personal. Children and adults have different sleep needs that change with age but all require a quality mattress.” She adds. “At McRoskey, we offer a family of mattresses, from the Basic to the Classic to the byDesign and our new 7’ by 7’ San Francisco King for every stage of a family’s life.”
Here are more tips on better rest for children and parents:
For new parents, sleep when your baby sleeps. Take a quick nap rather than catching up on chores. A short snooze can boost your energy level.
Stay on Schedule. Establish a regular routine for your kids’ sleep and stick to it.
Kids grow fast. Make sure they are sleeping on the right size mattress. Be sure your children have enough space to move around comfortably as they grow. Keep in mind your child’s first bed may not be right in size or comfort for your adolescent.
Say no to hand-me-down mattresses. If a mattress is not comfortable for you, it’s not good enough for someone else – especially your child.
